No, you don’t need a referral if you wish to pay privately or through your private health insurance. However, if you wish to claim Medicare rebates you will need a referral from a paediatrician, psychiatrist, or GP. Please ensure this referral is in your child’s name.

Yes, depending on the type of referral, you may be eligible to claim a Medicare rebate for either 5, 10, or 20 sessions for therapy, and up to 4 sessions for an assessment. You will need a referral from a paediatrician, psychiatrist, or GP.

Yes, we accept self-managed and plan-managed NDIS clients.

You can make a claim for therapy with private insurers, however, they may not accept claims for psychological assessments. It is best to check with your insurance company for more information.

No, most assessments don’t require a parent to be in the room. You’re welcome to stay in the waiting room or explore a cafe in the area. Please ensure we can contact you on the phone during the assessment.

For the cognitive and academic assessments please pack several snacks and a drink for your child.

For any of the assessments you could tell your child that they will be meeting with a psychologist to do some activities, play games, and complete puzzles. Please try not to tell them they’re completing a “test” for the cognitive or academic assessments to prevent any performance anxiety.

We recommend discussing the results with your child, and providing developmentally appropriate information. Remember that knowledge and self-discovery is very powerful. We are happy to discuss this in more detail during the feedback session.

You will receive the report within 4-6 weeks from the last assessment appointment.

Sometimes it can be hard to take in all of the information provided at once. If you have further questions, please don’t hesitate to contact the psychologist who completed the assessment. 

No, we can’t provide a diagnosis if your child does not meet the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders – Fifth Edition (DSM-5) criteria. 

A provisional diagnosis means that the psychologist can’t be certain that your child meets the DSM-5 criteria, and more information is needed. We usually recommend a retest in 2 years time once recommendations have been completed and more information is gathered.

We don’t, however we’re happy to refer you to external translation services who can help. Please note that it is the responsibility of the client to organise for the translator to be at the appointment, whether that be at our practice or on a phone/video call.

The client is also responsible for paying the translation service directly.

For cancellations prior to 48 hours of the appointment, there will be no fee incurred. 

For cancellations within 48 hours of the appointment: 50% of the fee is payable. 

For same day cancellations or non-attendance of an appointment: the full fee is payable.
